I like you - Sandol Stoddard Warburg

Admist trying to settle down for the routine mugging sessions in the library, and updating myself of friend's blogs, here's something that put a grin to my face while i was sitting in the middle of people with intense concentration, frowns and all.

Taken off Kenny's blog, from the book, 'I Like You' by Sandol Stoddard Warburg. For your reading pleasure, till I'm back after exams =)

I like you

I know why I like you because you are a good person to like

I like you because when i tell you something special, you know its special and you remember it a long long timeYou say 'Remember when you told me something special' And both of us remember...

When I think something is important, you think its important tooWhen i say something funny, you laugh. I think I'm funny and you think I'm funny too... Ha ha.

I like you because you know where I'm ticklish and you dont tickle me there except just a little tiny bit sometimes But if you do then i know where to tickle you too!

You know how to be silly. That's why I like you... Boy are you ever silly! I never met anybody sillier than me till I met you. I like you because you know when its time to stop being silly

If I pretend I'm drowning, you pretend you're saving me... If I'm ready to pop a paper bag, then you are getting ready to jump!

If you go away then i go away too, or if i stay home you send me a postcard... you dont just say 'Well see you around sometime...bye' I like you alot because of that. If I go away I send you a postcard too.

And I like you because when I'm feeling sad you dont always cheer me up right away, sometimes its better to be sad You cant stand the others being so googly and gaggly every single minute. You want to think about things. It takes time.

I like you because if I'm mad at you, then you are mad at me too. Its awful when the other person isnt. They are so nice and hoo-hoo you could just about punch them in the nose.

I like you because if I think I'm going to throw up then you are really sorry. You dont just pretend you are busy looking at the birdies and all that. You say 'Maybe it was something you ate' You say 'the same thing happened to me one time'. And the same thing did.

If I break my arm and if you break your arm too, then its fun to have a broken arm I tell you about mine, you tell me about yours, we're both sorry. We write our names and draw pictures. We show everybody and they wish they had a broken arm too!

I like you because I dont know why but everything that happens is nicer with you. I cant remember when i didnt like you. I guess I dont know why I like you really Why do I like you I guess I just like you. I guess I just like you.

Tis' the season to be mugging...

hehe.. yes, it's the season to start mugging, counting down 2 wks to exams. Nothing new, in fact, jaded already. As cliche as it sounds, it is with increasing amazement to look back each sem and exclaim 'Oh! How time flies!" and very much so this semester. i can hardly believe tomorrow is the last day of class.

In the midst of mugging sessions (which ain't that torturous anymore), there was something unusual today! I was on my way to the co-op, (not to get stationery, but tidbits.. hehe) when i saw lots of people wearing extremely smart and formal wear registering for something at the forum. Was curious to find out what was happening, but lazy to walk over, so dismissed it. And on my way to tuition, I walked past a sign that says "Remarks by President George Bush. blah blah blah". Wow! That explains it! the President is here! in my school! I thought that's quite cool, apart from the elitist and exclusive nature of his talk. Heard that some students were 'specially' selected to attend the talk, now now.. "how come i nv received the elitist invitation?" haha.

hmm. there's nothing really much to hype about actually, apart from the sight i saw. at Clementi Road, a lane was specially demarcated by cones for cars who were going to the talk. Not that it's extraordinary, but there were so many police officers lined up everywhere, and even American ladies wearing smart suits standing on the road divider to greet the cars? And then i saw a big luxury car slide up the road, saw the driver wave an invitation card, and proceed to the entrance of NUS, where security stops the car and checks everything in the boot.

ok, i admit that i was entertained by the extreme measures and unusual details. Started imagining how the staff at University Cultural Centre (where the talk was held) must have been so flustered the day before, testing and re-testing the sound system, and the florist frowning over the slightly drooping flowers on the stage. But then, i started wondering how come just an arrival of a man could cause such a commotion? It was done up to perfection lah, i bet the organizers couldn't sleep the night before..

It's amazing as the contrasts strike me, how people can so highly esteem a man, but can so lowly degrade another. And if we have VIPs, i'm surprised we 'forgot' to coin the term VUPs (Very Unimportant Person). It saddens me, because if one man is so highly esteemed, another would be treated like dirt. What kind of equality are we actually working towards?

and just another random thought : if a VIP and a VUP were drowning, who would you save first?
(1) The VIP of cos. His life is worth much more.
(2) The VUP, because we need to eradicate VIPs.
(3) Whoever I can reach first.
(4) None. I don't want to get wet.

Disclaimer : I have nothing against President Bush here. I respect him, and may the Lord guide him with wisdom to lead the country.

Well, just how many times have I looked at someone and feel they were 'less worthy'? It is such a good reminder, that the Lord loves each one, whether he's VIP or VUP. And thinking about President Bush made me think of something else too. I'm amazed at how people can get so 'kan cheong' and flustered over the arrival of an VIP. Just why are they so special that they demand such effort? Like Kings and Queens, Princes and Princesses. Who was the one who gave them their lot in life after all? Speaking of which, if God is supposedly bigger and higher than human beings, why is there a lack of such meticulous preparation and effort to await his presence, compared to a President, or even an actor? Why do our hands feel heavy when clapping in worship when we could give a 5min standing ovation to someone else? Just why?

The Highlight of the Week!

This photo AGAIN. but admit it, it's nice right!
Yes, it was the highlight of the week - the good fun, the yummylicious food, the beautiful place (cos it's my place! haha.), the perfect weather, and of cos, the wonderful people. I have a feeling that we'll never get sick of taking photos, because each photo brings out the beauty and joy of these outings.. and yes, we must take more group photos, until I find a perfect one for my study room table.

But all our outings have reasons behind it, and this? It was our darling sam's 20th bdae! hehe.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SAM! (ok, it feels weird that i'm typing this with her sitting beside me..) Anyway, i think our surprises are becoming mere feeble unsuccessful attempts, perhaps bcoz our great bdae surprise planner is away in shanghai.. but oh, never forget the big surprise one for cher, which was so successful it gave her nightmares. haha. *evil laughter*

Perhaps, we had our fair share of bdae surprises. And maybe, just maybe, it's time to impact the world out there. =)

Happiness?

When can I ever smile like that again?

Maybe all I need is a break. A break from all the crap.

Can you tell me the formula for happiness?

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. ~Psalm 43~
